New Legal Advice Drop-In Service for Young People in Suffolk

A new legal advice service for young people hosted by Suffolk Youth & Connexions is being launched in Ipswich.

The Infobar in Fore Street, a one-stop shop for advice and support for young people, will be piloting the legal drop-in service from Monday 4 June.

It will be run by specialist advice service, Lawyers for Young People (LFYP) which is part of leading Essex law firm Fisher Jones Greenwood LLP, and has been providing legal advice directly to young people, particularly those in care, leaving care and those needing services, since January 2006.

LFYP Project Leader and Solicitor Liz Frank said: “We are very pleased to be working with Connexions on this very important project in Ipswich. Vulnerable young people often find it difficult to know when, if and how to get to see a solicitor meaning that often problems go unresolved. If young people can access advice at an early stage, many issues may not develop in to huge insurmountable problems.”

Delyth Miles, Locality Manager for Youth & Connexions said: “I'm absolutely delighted to host this drop-in legal service for young people in South Suffolk. I am sure that many young people will benefit from this service and consequently be able to achieve their potential.”

LFYP has developed drop-in services in youth organisations as a means of taking the law to young people and improve early and easy access to the law.

It currently provides drop-in advice services at Connexions One Stop Shop in Chelmsford. LFYP drop-in services are also available in Colchester at the Youth Service, in Basildon at the Citizens Advice Bureau and in Canvey Island at the Canvey Youth Project.

The Ipswich legal drop-in service will be available on the first Monday of every month from Monday, 4th June between 12noon and 2pm at Infobar, 37 – 43 Fore Street, Ipswich, Suffolk, IP4 1JL.

Details of all drop-in services can be found at the Lawyers for Young People website www.lfyp.org.uk
